Restoring Shine in Handscraped Hardwood Flooring

Handscraped hardwoord floors are meant to look aged and worn. Much like reclaimed wood, it lends a more rustic and natural appeal to any space that it is used in. The textures that cover the wood itself is often done by hand through the use of metal scrapes, hammering as well as chiseling to create shallow grooves which give it the surface it is well-known for. What you’ll need:

Dust mop, bucket and some dishwashing detergent.

Getting started:

Use the dust mop to wipe the surface of the wood floor. This should effectively get rid of any surface dirt and dust which often causes the wood to look dull. Make sure that you don’t grind on the wood too hard as doing so might actually dull it even further.
Fill your bucket with about a gallon of warm water then add half a teaspoon of dishwashing detergent to the mix. Stir it in order to create a soapy solution.
After mixing warm water and soap, soak your mop in it and make sure that you wring out any excess water before using it on the floor. Use a mop that’s too wet and you could cause water damage to your wood flooring.
The mop is for removing stains as well as getting rid of dirt build up that a simple cloth cannot handle. Once you’ve covered the whole area, dry the wood through the use of clean cloth.
To add further shine, take one of the clean cloths and add club soda to it. Afterwards, rub it into the flooring. A second buffing would certainly bring out the floor’s former luster.
